As of January 20, 2016, Department of Defense will be requiring alternate forms of identification for access to DoD installations. Standard driver’s licenses from Washington, Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri and New Mexico do not comply with the REAL ID Act of 2005. Enhanced drivers license and passport are approved as are common access cards, uniformed services identification and privileges, federal personal identification verification cards or transportation workers’ identification credentials.

It is not just these 5 states, there are others that have received extensions but will be shifted to the unapproved list over the next year. Find out more @ REAL ID Enforcement in Brief

With regard to air travel, TSA will stop accepting the unapproved ids January 22, 2018.

What to do? Update your passport or get an enhanced driver’s license. Make employees aware of changes to installation ID requirements.
