Scope of work
The UW Seattle campus’ Central Utility Plant (CP) provides compressed air for all buildings on the Seattle campus. The CP has four installed air compressors of varying capacities and a highly customized air dryer system. Compressors 1, 2, and 3 are Worthington reciprocating air compressors at least 40 years old. Compressor #4 is a relatively new Atlas Copco screw type compressor; 500 hp with 2175 SCFM capacity. This project will idle compressor #1 and replace compressors #2 and #3 with new compressors of similar capacity to existing compressor #4. This will provide the CP with three full capacity compressors to meet the campus’ demand; i.e. one plus two spares to allow for 100% redundancy at all times. The project will also demo the existing air dryer system for all four compressors and install new heat of compression rotary drum dryers on each compressor (#2, #3, and #4).
